Royal Automobile Club’s Report on Motoring 2024

This research from the U.K.’s Royal Automobile Club found that one in six drivers has nearly been involved in a crash because road markings were unclear or had disappeared altogether.

Nearly three-quarters of drivers say pavement marking visibility has worsened over the past five years. Many report having to guess where lanes are, ending up in the wrong lane, or overshooting junctions because critical markings have faded away.

An overwhelming 92% of motorists say disappearing road markings make driving more dangerous, a result the RAC called “frightening.”
